Why do we worship gods in Hinduism?

We have different gods in Hinduism. Numerous gods are worship and uncountable temples are around the world with millions of followers. But why do we actually worship them? The answers are easy, to be happy or to get anything we want. But how did this idea came up? How first person to worship god did came to know about this facts that by worshipping god we can be happy? But first of all we should know about what actually Hindu text books tell about this. Is this correct that by worshipping god our unhappiness will turn into happiness? Actually, some image of Indus valley civilization suggest that the concept of worshipping started before Veda period. People used to worship nature as well as unknown power called as god. Slowly people start to elaborate this concept. They add various elements in this process which form religion. Then religious thoughts and ideas start to be preserved. Those ideas are Veda and Purans.
